Massage therapy built for downtown professionals

If you work in a downtown Seattle office, you already know what sitting at a desk for eight or more hours does to your body. Tight shoulders, a stiff neck, headaches that start at the base of your skull. These problems build up over weeks and months until they become constant background pain.

Maxwell Massage PLLC specializes in treating exactly these kinds of issues. Our only clinic is at 100 Wall St in Belltown, within downtown Seattle. Westlake Center is about 15 minutes away on foot; from the south financial district, a direct Third Avenue bus is usually faster than walking.

Our therapists use deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy to break up the tension patterns that develop from prolonged sitting. These are targeted, clinical techniques. We find the specific muscles causing your pain and work them until they release.

Common conditions we treat for downtown workers

Desk work creates predictable pain patterns. Your upper trapezius muscles tighten from hunching over a keyboard. Your neck flexors shorten from looking down at screens. Your hip flexors lock up from sitting all day. Left untreated, these patterns lead to chronic neck pain, shoulder pain, and recurring headaches.

Our therapists see these patterns every day. They know where to look for the trigger points that refer pain into your head, down your arms, or between your shoulder blades. Neuromuscular therapy is particularly effective for these desk-related conditions because it addresses the nerve and muscle interactions that cause referred pain.

  • Neck stiffness and cervical tension
  • Upper back and shoulder blade pain
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Carpal tunnel and wrist pain from typing
  • Lower back pain from prolonged sitting
  • Hip tightness and sciatica
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • General stress and muscle tension

Insurance information

An FSA or HSA card is the simplest way to pay, and a balance that would otherwise expire at the end of the plan year covers a course of treatment rather than one visit. We are out of network with commercial insurance, so you pay at the appointment and leave with a Superbill, an itemized receipt your plan can reimburse against. Personal injury (PIP) and workers' compensation (L&I) we bill directly. Full insurance details.

"I really enjoyed my massage therapy appointment with Olivia and will be going back for further treatment! This was my first experience with any kind of professional massage and I was a little nervous, but it ended up being very enjoyable! Olivia made it easy to communicate my needs, explained what she was doing well, and was happy to answer all of my questions. …"

"I had a fantastic massage experience with Lauren Herring. She applied just the right amount of pressure, not too intense to cause discomfort, but firm enough to bring real relief. I didn't have to give much direction, she intuitively found the trigger points. I also mentioned some tension in my jaw, and she addressed it with great skill, providing noticeable relief."

How far we are from Downtown

Downtown stretches a long way north to south, so the trip depends where you start. Real times to 100 Wall Street:

  • Westlake Center and the retail core — 15 minutes on foot, 12 by bus
  • Columbia Center and the south financial district — 29 minutes on foot, 17 by bus

Third Avenue is the city's main transit spine and runs two blocks from our door, so from almost anywhere downtown you can get here on one bus without transferring. Westlake Station is about ten minutes away on foot if you are arriving on the Link.

There is paid street parking on Wall Street and paid lots within a block or two. We do not validate, and Belltown parking is Belltown parking, so at rush hour the bus is usually faster than circling.

The desk-work complaints we treat most

Sitting at a screen all day produces a familiar pattern, and it responds well to treatment: neck pain and stiffness, shoulder pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel, and tension headaches. Regular massage is closer to upkeep than indulgence when your work is static and repetitive.

FSA and HSA funds are accepted. We are out of network with commercial plans and cannot bill them for you, but we provide a superbill you can submit yourself if your policy has out-of-network massage benefits. Details on our pricing page.
