Targeted therapy for tech industry pain patterns

South Lake Union is home to Amazon, Google, Meta, and dozens of other tech companies. The people who work there spend long hours at desks, in meetings, and staring at screens. That leads to forward head posture, rounded shoulders, tight forearms, and lower back pain that never fully goes away.

Maxwell Massage PLLC treats these conditions every day. Our clinic at 100 Wall St in Belltown is 10-15 minutes from South Lake Union, an easy trip on the SLU Streetcar or a quick drive down Westlake. Our therapists use neuromuscular therapy and trigger point therapy to locate and release the specific muscles causing your pain.

These are not relaxation-only sessions. Our therapists assess the areas you describe, discuss your goals, and use targeted techniques within the scope of massage therapy to address tension and movement restrictions.

Common conditions we treat for SLU workers

Hours of keyboard and mouse work create tension in the forearms, wrists, and hands that can develop into carpal tunnel syndrome or other nerve compression issues. Our therapists use targeted forearm and hand work to release the muscles that compress these nerves before the condition becomes severe.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle option some clients choose when stress and mental fatigue are part of the picture. Your therapist can explain the approach and help you decide whether it fits your goals.

  • Neck pain and cervical tension
  • Carpal tunnel and wrist pain
  • Upper back and shoulder blade pain
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Lower back pain from prolonged sitting
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Eye strain headaches
  • Stress-related muscle tension

Insurance information

Most people who come to us from the South Lake Union offices pay with an FSA or HSA card. Massage counts as a medical expense, and those balances are already yours to spend. We are out of network with commercial plans, so if you would rather claim it, we give you a Superbill at checkout and you file it yourself. Car accident (PIP) and workers' compensation (L&I) claims we bill directly. Full insurance details.

How far we are from South Lake Union

South Lake Union covers a lot of ground, so the honest answer depends on which building you are in. These are real walking and transit times to our door at 100 Wall Street:

  • Amazon Spheres — 15 minutes on foot, 14 by bus
  • Amazon Doppler — 16 minutes on foot, 15 by bus
  • UW Medicine South Lake Union — 19 minutes on foot, 15 by bus
  • Meta — 27 minutes on foot, 19 by bus
  • Fred Hutch — 38 minutes on foot, 28 by bus

If you are at the south end near the Spheres you can walk here on a lunch break without hurrying. From Fred Hutch or the north end of the neighborhood, take a bus down Westlake. It is downhill coming, uphill going back, which is worth knowing before you book.

There is paid street parking on Wall Street and paid lots within a block or two. We do not validate, and Belltown parking is Belltown parking, so at rush hour the bus is usually faster than circling.

What we usually see from this neighborhood

Desk work has a fairly predictable set of consequences, and we treat all of them: neck pain and stiffness, shoulder pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel and nerve pain, and tension headaches. None of these are things you have to live with because you sit down for a living.

Most large employers here offer an FSA or HSA, and massage at our clinic is an eligible expense, which effectively takes a third off the cost. We are out of network with commercial plans, but we hand you a superbill afterwards and plenty of our clients claim it back themselves. How that works, in detail.
