Safe Space Massage in Seattle
Maxwell Massage PLLC is a Safe Space certified massage therapy clinic in Belltown, Seattle. We welcome clients of all identities, body types, and backgrounds. No exceptions.
What Safe Space certified means for you
Maxwell Massage is a licensed clinical massage practice in Belltown. Every therapist here holds an active Washington State massage therapy license, and every appointment is treatment: an intake, a plan, and hands-on work toward a goal you set.
Clinical care still asks something of you. For clients who have been dismissed, misgendered, or made to feel unwelcome in medical settings, walking into a new clinic carries a weight that has nothing to do with the treatment itself.
Safe Space certification is our commitment that this is not one of those places. We affirm all gender identities, sexual orientations, body types, and backgrounds, and our team uses your name and pronouns without question. We don't make assumptions about your body or your history. We ask, we listen, and we adapt the work to what you actually need.

LGBTQ+ and trans-affirming massage therapy
Queer and trans clients tell us the hard part is rarely the massage — it is the intake form with two boxes, the front desk that reads a name aloud and pauses, the provider who needs a history explained from scratch. Our forms let you tell us your name and pronouns, our therapists use them, and nobody is asked to justify their body to receive treatment. The same goes for clients who have faced body shame, disability, or dismissal in other healthcare settings:
- LGBTQ+ and queer clients
- Transgender and nonbinary clients
- Clients with larger bodies
- Clients recovering from mastectomy or breast surgery
- Clients with visible or invisible disabilities
- Clients with trauma histories
- Clients who have felt dismissed by other providers
- First-time massage clients who feel nervous
- Clients navigating chronic pain or complex conditions
- Anyone who has ever felt like they didn't quite fit
Informed consent and plain language, always
Every session at Maxwell Massage begins with a conversation. We ask about your goals, your history, and what you want from the session. We explain what we plan to do and why, and we check in throughout the session.
You are always in control. You can ask us to adjust pressure, skip an area, change position, or stop entirely. No explanation needed. Draping is thorough and intentional.
If something is outside our scope, we tell you directly and refer you to the right provider. We don't guess, and we don't overstate what massage can do. We just do our jobs well.
Every therapist here is licensed by the Washington State Department of Health, and each license number is published on their profile so you can verify it in the state registry before you ever book.
Clinical work that asks for extra care
Some of our most meaningful treatment involves areas where technique and consent matter in equal measure — work that calls for a therapist who is clinically trained, communicative, and genuinely respectful.
- Breast & chest massage, including post-mastectomy care
- Intra-oral TMJ massage
- Prenatal massage
- Scar tissue work from surgical or injury recovery
These sessions are approached with the same care and communication as all others, with consent confirmed at every step.
What our clients say
Rated 5 out of 5."Got one of the best massages that was targeted to my issues. Felt cared for and comfortable in the space!"
— D.S. via Google
Rated 5 out of 5."I'm also a massage therapist, but I don't take care of myself in a way that I recommend to others. She was a very focused and professional therapist who communicated well and challenged some areas that were clearly uncomfortable and outside my comfort zone. However, she was able to understand my sensitivity and know when and how long to hold the pressure, so it never became painful. …"
— A.E. via Google
Rated 5 out of 5."My massage was amazing and Olivia was very sweet."
— S.A. via Google
Rated 5 out of 5."Olivia was communicative, informative, and provided the best massage ever. I look forward to working with her more in the future and will be referring anyone who asks."
— S.F. via Google
Rated 5 out of 5."Lauren Herring is an excellent massage practitioner. Truly best in class for caring and expertise. Not many would be as knowledgeable as she is. She's not just going through the motions. She takes the time to study pains and history and changes treatment."
